She was predeceased by: her parents, John L. Pennington and Mary Reed Pennington; her husband Thomas Allen Hightower; and her siblings, Ted Pennington, Argus Lee "Pete" Pennington, David Pennington, Mary Faye Anderson, Virginia Jo Kytle and Eugene.
She is survived by: her stepdaughters, Linda Cullom and Donna Woodson. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request a donation in Ida's name to Rison Baptist Church.
