He was predeceased by: his parents, James Burrell Martin and Corrine Elizabeth "Bettie" Ridley Martin. He is survived by: his son James Daniel Martin; his grandchildren, James F., Daniel T., Jackson D. and Jada L. E. Martin; his stepgrandson Andrew V. Cole; his siblings, William David "Bill" Martin (Laurel) of Chandler, Oklahoma, Bernell Wilkins (Harold) of Arkoma and Margaret Ann Clousner of Maryland; his significant other Nedra Kay Hopper; and his significant other's children, LeAndra Roberts and Tamara Shoulders. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
