He was predeceased by: his parents, James Sr and Sandra Lindsey Cook Sr.; his son Sterling Dewayne "Bubba" Cook; and his brother Floyd Payne. He is survived by: his children, Christopher Dewayne Cook, Michael Wayne Cook, William S Cook Jr, Mathew Allen Cook, Stephanie Lee Cook and Stephanie Leann Cook; his siblings, James M Cook Jr (Red Oak Texas), Kevin Cook of Nashville Tennessee, Russell Cook of Nashville Tennessee, Debbie Cowart, Nikki Tolliver of Knoxville and Karen Lynn Cook of Memphis Tennessee; and his sister-in-law Debra Payne of Prescott. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
