He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward J. Bates and Francis Chamberlain Bates; his wife Carol Bates; and his brother-in-law Don Burgess. He is survived by: his children, Jimmy Joe Bates (Amanda) of Pocahontas, Marie Kennedy of Pocahontas, Lashae Ward (Tony) of Pocahontas and Shelby Thompson of Newport; his grandchildren, Darrell Joseph Bates, Emile Roseann Bates, Lucky Ryan Bates, EmmaJenn Hurst and Adrian Hurst; and his siblings, Sharon Burgess of Pocahontas, Linda Rooker (Gary) of O'Kean, Clifford Bates (Tonya Eagan) of Michigan, Robin Rodriguez (Mario) of New Mexico, Ruth Patterson (Randy) of Pocahontas and Bob Bates (Dina) of Paragould.
Visitation was held on Saturday, December 7th 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the McNabb Funeral Home (2129 N Park St, Pocahontas, AR 72455). A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 7th 2024 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
