He was predeceased by: his parents, John Layton Rushing, Sr. and Mable Jeanette Jones Rushing; his siblings, Claude Rushing, Vivian Weems, Eva Hill and Betty Sims; and his niece Tina Hill.

He is survived by: his wife Patsy Caldwell Rushing of Perryville; and his sister Sally Mae Prestridge of Terry, Mississippi. He is also survived by nine nieces and three nephews.
