He was predeceased by : his parents, Charles L. and Maudie Stricklin Matthews; his wife Velma Mae Matthews; and his siblings, Mildred Caldwell, Pauline Kelly and Jim Daryl Matthews.

He is survived by : his son-in-law Sandy Scroggins; his granddaughter Stephanie "Peaches"; his husband Jonathon Gibson of Hot Springs; his brother-in-law Herman (Bertie Mullings) of Hot Springs; his friend Sarah Hale of Royal; and also, Mike Scroggins of Amity, Rhonda Mills, John Paul Mills of Hot Springs and Nancy Winkle of Hot Springs. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Lakeshore Heights Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, the Arkansas Baptist Children's Home or a charity of your choice.
