He was predeceased by: his parents, Emmett Holsey Hayes and Lavadie Burt Hayes; his wife Nelda Hayes; his siblings, Lilah Mae Johnson (Earl), Myrtle Donovan, Joyce Tinney (Ray), Maurice Hayes and William Hayes (Sandra); and his parents-in-law, Curtis Smith, Avis Hayes and Sheree Hayes.
He is survived by: his children, Kathy Ann Dawson (Jim) of Asheboro, Wanda Lee Baker (Anthony) of Little Flock, Ken Hayes of Washburn and Charles Robert Hayes (Suzanne) of Asheboro; his siblings, Emmett Hayes (Earnestine) of Picayune, Eleanor Smith of Maplesville and Linda Atcheson (Robert Jr.) of Stanton, Alabama; and his sister-in-law Donna Hayes of Montgomery, Alabama. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.
