He is survived by: his children, Robert Eric Bates (Sheri), Glen Bates, Rorry Bates, Kimberly Bates and Tomica Bates-Rodriquez; his siblings, Carolyn Lewis, Glenda Bates, Lois Thompson, Peggy Howard, Theresa Thompson, Vanessa Ellingburg, Veronica Bates, Karen Bates, Esther Bates, JoAnna Bates and Timmy Bates; his close friend Rachelle Criss; his grandchildren, Tori Bates, Ty Bates, Tate Bates, Cy Bates, London Bates, Nia Bates, Xavier Rodriquez, Humberto Rodriquez, Amelia Rodriquez, Ximena Rodriquez, Carter of Washington and Lauren of Washington; and his great grandchildren, Grayson Bates and Nikolai Bates. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
