He was predeceased by: his mother Maude Mahan Mitchell; his former wife Carolyn Pannell Mitchell; and his wife Margaret "Kristi" Mitchell. He is survived by: his children, Lance Mitchell (Christen) of Monette and Kristin Frankowski (Gary) of Little Rock; his grandchildren, Lindsey McBride (Andrew) of Edmond, David Mitchell (Elizabeth) of Bella Vista, Landon Mitchell of Paragould, Sara of Little Rock, Ryan of Little Rock and Adam Frankowski of Little Rock; his stepgrandchildren, Gracie Beck of Monette, Caitlyn Beck of Monette and Brody Shipley of Monette; his great grandchildren, Lane, Luke, Asher and Eli McBride; his brother Tom Mitchell of Atlanta; and his niece Stacey Speicher (Todd Mitchell).
