He was predeceased by: his parents, Gus Joe Shaffer and DeEsta Rose Pillstrom Shaffer; his sister-in-law Kathy Shaffer; and his nephews, Jason McElroy and Tim Morrow.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Lou McElroy; his daughters, Ashley Shaffer Miles (James) of Ozark and Ivy Shaffer (Kevin Kannett) of Alma, Arkansas; his brothers, Newton Ray Shaffer (Brenda) of Ozark, David Ralph Shaffer (late Kathy Shaffer) of Ozark, Jack Winston Shaffer (Jennifer) of Ozark and Mark Young (Stacie) of Savannah, Georgia; and his grandchildren, Ethan Marcotte of Sherwood, Natalie Marcotte, Harris Marcotte of Ozark, Krosby Kannett, Wren Kannett of Alma and Nora Miles of Ozark.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 503 West Commercial Street Ozark, Arkansas 72949 and the National Wild Turkey Federation, 770 Augusta Road Edgefield, South Carolina 29824.
