She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Alton and Lillie McDoniel (Weaver); her husband Jay Dee Brooks; and her brothers, Paul McDoniel, Timothy McDoniel and James McDoniel.

She is survived by: her daughters, Betty Mae Castling (Philip) of Newark and Vivian Kay Button (Don) of Ulysses; her siblings, Jim McDoniel (Bobbie) of Newark, Robert McDoniel (Sarah) of Newark, Wallace McDoniel (Lois) of Newark, Ida Mae Dugger of Searcy, Barbara Britton (Bill) of Newark and Juanita Bainbridge of Newark; her grandchildren, David Castling (Amy) of Osceola, Cassie Stein (Matt) of Ulysses, Melissa Tate (Daniel) of Batesville, D. J, Button Matthews (Amanda) of Bono and Penny Matthews (Jason) of Pleasant Plains; and her sister-in-law Mammie Hawkins of Newark. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
