He was predeceased by: his parents, Anthony Matt Schmitz and Bertha Louise Schmitz (Rietkze); his wife Mary Schmitz (Atchison); and his siblings, Leonard, Andy, Justin, Agnes Hess and Sister Cabrini Schmitz.

He is survived by: his children, Wanda Vaughan (Tim) of Paris, Glenn Schmitz (Bianca) of Moseley, Barbara Brantley (Ray) of Spring, Vincent Scott (Ladonna) of Booneville and Leah Scott of Charleston; his grandchildren, Jackie, Anthony Vaughan, Saydra, Wyatt, Ayden Schmitz, Hunter, Kendra Scott and Langston Gack; and his siblings, Lawrence of Kentucky, Cletus of Kansas City, Denis of Broken Bow, Ray of Texas and Mary Ann of Tulsa. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked donations be made to your local animal shelter.
