He was predeceased by: his wife Kathryn Gritters; his son Brent Freehauf; and his siblings, John Gritters, Robert Gritters and Myrtle DeYoung.
He is survived by: his son Herman; his friend Nora Treat of Mountain Home, AR; his daughters, Sandra Slazyk (Bruce) and Tamara Burke (Thomas); and his siblings, Roger Gritters (Phyllis), Harry "Don" Gritters and Diane Zigterman (Keith). He is also survived by nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
