It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bertis Lee Sawyer (Monticello, Arkansas), who passed away on December 23, 2023, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Thona Sawyer and Eddie Sawyer; and his siblings, Ledward Sawyer, Robert Roy Sawyer, Thomas Sawyer, Lula Bell Colbert, Alice M. Wilson and Caroline A. Green.
He is survived by: his wife Gracie L. Washington-Sawyer; his children, Charlotte Ridgell (Stephon), Stacy Sawyer (Libby) of Monticello and Winter Owens (Marvin) of Fort Worth, Texas; his grandchildren, Crystal Shepherd of Shreveport, LA, Gary Shephard of Houston, TX, Stephanie Banks of Monticello, AR, Stefen Ridgell of Shreveport, LA, Charlayah Ridgell of Osceola, AR, Chancellor Owens, Jazlyn Owens, Marvin Owens, Jr. and Stacy Sawyer, Jr.; his great grandchildren, Zion Shepherd, Zynell Shepherd, Xiyia, Ziyia Ridgell and Jayla Evans; his sisters, Mary Childress of Crossett, AR, Carolyn Simmons of Florida, Barbara Wesley (Bruce) and Cheryl Wilson of Detroit, Michigan; and his nephew Windell Wilson (Isabella). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
