He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ed and Jane Alene Gaines (Hughes); and his brothers, Kyle Gaines and Jon Kent Gaines, Sr.. He is survived by: his siblings, Norman Gaines of Waldo and Marilyn Fluharty of Overton, NV; his son Merrick Gaines of Little Rock; his grandson Dexter Gaines of Little Rock; his niece Trace Millican (Steven) of McNeil; his nephew Jon Kent Gaines, Jr. (Stacy) of McNeil; his great-nephews, Zackary Gaines and Joseph Dauzat of Magnolia; his great-niece Payton Dauzat of McNeil; and also, Blakley Gaines, Brantley Gaines of Magnolia, Blakely Gaines and Huxley Dauzat of Magnolia. He is also survived by extended family and friends.
