He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Lydia Kelley and Floyd Kelley; his wife Karen Atkins Kelley; his children, Layton (Gina Kelley) of Benton, Krista (Carlton "Stoney" Fortenberry) of McGehee, Caroline Fortenberry, Drew and Gavin Kelley; his sisters, Janice "Sissy" Sadler (Jimmie) of Monticello, Mary Lawrence (Carlton "Buddy") of Portland, Joy Cunningham (H. T.) of Portland and Nancy Young of Shreveport, LA.; and also Kelley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to McGehee Food Pantry, where James enjoyed volunteering after his retirement, or to First Methodist Church of McGehee.
