He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Mathes and Mary Louise Lindsey Mathes; his son Todd Edward Mathes; his grandson Christopher Cartwright; and his sisters, Betty Mathes and Ann Mathes.

He is survived by: his children, Todd Conner of West Memphis, AR, Carl Mathes, Jr. of West Memphis, AR, Christy Hamrick of West Memphis, AR, Tammy Brewer of Illinois, Tina Ramsey of Illinois and Erica Mathes of Marion, AR; and his siblings, Bill Mathes, Patricia Abram (Thomas) of Wynne, AR and Rita Mathes of Mississippi. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
