Gwendolyn Leverne Shipley Obituary

Gwendolyn Leverne Shipley, 78, of Manila Arkansas, passed peacefully in her home on November 8, 2024. Gwendolyn, or Laverne, to those of us blessed to know and love her, was the second to youngest of seven children, born to Eula Mae and William Harrison McGrew.

She married the love of her life, Charles, in 1963 and shortly after welcomed their beautiful children, Shari Lynn and Charles "Chuck" Stephen. Laverne and Charles spent several years in Indiana raising their children but eventually moved back to Manila as they always considered this to be their home. Laverne was a devoted homemaker and was fiercely loyal and protective of her family and friends. She was dependable and always there to help someone in need. She loved reading, listening to country music, shopping, and watching British TV shows. She never met a dog that she didn't like, but she despised mice.

Laverne is preceded in death by her husband Charles and son Chuck.

She is survived by her daughter, Shari Morton-Davis (Tommy), daughter-in-law Angela Shipley, brother-in-law Jack Powell, sister-in-law Norma Shipley, brother Dale McGrew, sister Linda Crouse, grandchildren Jeremy (Rosie) Morton, Joey Shipley, Nicole (Mike) Van Der Werken, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Per family, private service will be held.
