He was predeceased by: his wife Barbara Hague Thompson; his parents, Betty Jo Spakes Thompson and Joe Ralph Thompson; and his grandparents, Robert Stephen Thompson, Lila May Vinson Thompson, Dona Bell Phelps Spakes and William Ray Spakes.

He is survived by: his sister Robbie Ann Thompson McKinney (Sewell) of Memphis, TN; his son Joe Shannon Thompson (April) of Gallatin, TN; his stepsons, David and Doug Corter; his great grandchild Juliette Elizabeth Thompson Karrels of Panama City, FL; his stepgranddaughter Josie Campbell of Murfreesboro, TN; his niece Rebecca Corley (Becky); and his pets, Buddy and Hank.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 12th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Prosperity United Methodist Church - Pansy (50 AR-11, Rison, AR 71665).
