He was predeceased by: his parents, Pinky Geraldine Simpson and John Henry Simpson; his brother Searcy Simpson; and his grandparents, Ruby, Levi Thompson, O. Z. and Lavetta Simpson.
He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Yuvone Smith Simpson; his children, Rosalyne Simpson and Johnny Simpson Jr.; and his brothers, Ricky Simpson, Kenneth Simpson and Mickey Simpson (Shelia). He is also survived by five grandchildren.
