He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Alexander and Ruby Mae Janes Harper; and his siblings, Wayne Cortez Gilbert and Bea Hosey. He is survived by: his son Joel; his daughter-in-law Leah Harper of Lockesburg; his daughter Rebecca; his son-in-law Andrew Pope of Nashville, Arkansas; and his grandchildren, Britney Mitchell, Shawn McWhorter, Ashley Coleman, Grayson Coleman, Austin O'Rand, Dustin Smith, Meagan Smith, Tyler Pope, Andrea Woodruff and Julia Linhoff. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
