He was predeceased by: his parents, Burl Mathis and Edith Keef Mathis; his wife Mona Mathis; and his son James K. Mathis. He is survived by: his daughters, Brenda Mathis and Lynda Mathis Taylor; his siblings, Burl Mathis Jr. and Cheryl Markee; and his sister-in-law Pam Posey.
