She was predeceased by: her parents, Calvin Higgins and Alberta Daniel Higgins; her brothers, Melvin Higgins and Zahir Mahdi; and her grandson Shaheed Salih Akbar.
She is survived by: her sons, Anthony Akbar, Micheal Akbar, Akil Akbar (Rolanda) and Abdullah Akbar; and her siblings, Jameel Mahdi, Dr. Abuwi Mahdi, Adib Mahdi (Donna), Carolyn Yancy, Darlene Jones, Rasheedah Madinah and Allene Higgins. She is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
