He was predeceased by: his wife Linda Diane Emerson; his parents, Reba Emerson and Farris Emerson; and his sister Ann Childers. He is survived by: his son Matthew Benton Emerson (Carolee Emerson); his granddaughters, Lauren Farris Emerson and Allison "Allie" Harper Emerson; and his sister Marilyn Lyons. He is also survived by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Hospital, in honor of Kim's memory.
