He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnnie Brownfield and Ida Brownfield; his daughter Robin Ann Taylor; his wife Sandra Brownfield; and his sons, David Mills and Ron Mills.
He is survived by: his children, John Ward Brownfield, Jimmy Lewis Brownfield, Lois Matteson and Carollynn Chipson; and his siblings, Erma Parnell, Ida Belle Travis, Iris Poor, Jimmy Brownfield and Chris Brownfield.
