He is survived by: his wife Helen; his children, Susan Smithson of Rogers, Arkansas and Matthew Smithson (Cara) of Haiti; his mother Hattie Louise Smithson Stem; and his siblings, Linda Owen, Kenneth and Richard Smithson. He is also survived by four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
