Barbara D. Shurley Obituary
Barbara D. Shurley, 87, of Lake City, Arkansas passed from this life on November 27, 2024 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas surrounded by her family. Barbara was of the Baptist faith.
A lifetime resident of Craighead County, Barbara retired from General Electric Motors in 1992 having served as secretary to the Plant Manager during her tenure there. She was affectionately referred to as, "The Fried Pie Lady.". An excellent cook, baker, and pastry chef, Barbara would often surprise family, friends, and acquaintances at their homes and places of employment with her fried pies. Her home was open at all times to family and friends as Barbara was truly blessed with the gift of hospitality.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Edith Smith, husbands; Finnis M. "Bug" Hendley and Virgil Shurley, and siblings: Norma Pierce, Charles Smith, Jeanetta Bailey, Jim Smith and Lynn Smith.
She is survived by siblings; Eileen Adams, Margaret Wright and Larry Smith all of Lake City and Kenneth Smith of Jonesboro. Additionally, Barbara leaves behind many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews all of whom loved her dearly.
Barbara also leaves behind a step-daughter, Sherrie Shurley, and step-grandchildren; Amber Foster and Dusty Mensinger of Michigan and Sarah Mensinger of Truman as well as a step-great grandchild, Gavin Foster, also of Michigan.
Burial will be private with Faith Funeral Home in charge. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, 1148 East Matthews Avenue, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72401.
