He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Prater and Edna Prater (Bailey); his siblings, Parker Prater, Fritz Prater, Mildred Mullins and Pauline Addison; his children, Carol Sue Prater-Blain and Kerry David Shepherd; and his grandson Scotty Shepherd.

He is survived by: his stepmother Maudie Prater (Pigg); his wife Juhl Harriet Kearns (Julie); his siblings, Ernest Prater of Michigan and Linda Rudd of Michigan; and his children, Patricia Rodriguez (Chico) of Michigan, Jimmie Prater (Thana) of California, Ronica Hickey (Roy) of Arizona, Jeff Spurlock (CeCe) of California, Jerry Spurlock (Diana) of Montana, Brett Spurlock of California, Tesa Shepherd of California and Barbie Wools (David) of Arkansas. He is also survived by 30 Grandchildren, 48 Great Grandchildren and 16 Great, Great Grandchildren.

He lived life with charity in his heart, always giving, always putting another's needs before his own.
