He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Gordon Samuel Ferguson and Sibyl Hay Ferguson; his wife Betsy Smith; his friend Carol Anderson Fenner; his daughters, Susan (Ron Jackson), Judy (Roger Moore), Valerie (Bobby Statton), Beryl (Eddie Mitchell) and Bebe (Jim Faryewicz); his grandchildren, Barry (Rachel Jackson), Scott (Becca Jackson), John David Mitchell of Jonesboro, Jimmy Faryewicz (Sarah Smith), Valerie (Faryewicz) and Eliot York of Clyde; and his great grandchildren, Anna Jackson, Charlotte Jackson, Greer Jackson, Connor Jackson, Olivia York, Rowan York and Casper York.
