He was predeceased by: his parents, William Cecil Gladden and Christine "Minnie" Windham Gladden. He is survived by: his wife Cathy Gladden; his son Joe William Gladden, Jr.; his sister Sarah Gladden Allgood; his niece Alisa Allgood; his daughter Amanda Faith McConnell; and his grandson Theo Stephenson.
