He was predeceased by: his parents, Pierce G. Kirk and Minnie B. Kirk; his wife Virginia Knoles; and his siblings, Lela Lane, James and Charles.
He is survived by: his daughter Gloria Gates; his granddaughters, Christa (Stuart Silverstein) and Carolyn; his great grandchild Madeline Silverstein; and his sister Mabel Vanhook.
