He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Simpson and Leah Smith Simpson; and his sister Sue Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Roberta Simpson of Huntsville; his son Van Simpson; his daughter-in-law Laura Simpson of McKinney, TX; his daughters, Linda (Larry Keck), Jamie (Skelton) and Teena (Dan Cobb); and his brother David Simpson. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
