He was predeceased by: his parents, Joel Powell and Mary Powell; his siblings, Doyle Powell, James "Buddy" Powell, Virgil Powell, Etta Bell Hawthorne and Alene Stagner; and his son Ronnie Powell.

He is survived by: his wife Joyce Powell; his sons, Ray Powell (Dana) and Richard Powell (Heather); and his grandchildren, Chase, Chance, Chelsea, Autumn, Nicole, Daniel, Kalyne, Dallas and Grace. He is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren.
