He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Madewell and Verdie Davidson Madewell; and his siblings, Lee, Troy, Vester, Ruben Madewell, Argie Madewell, Estie Crisp, Marie McMillian, Donnie Freeman and Pauline Jones.

He is survived by: his wife Alta Madewell; his children, David Madewell of Hindsville and Dalane Doss of Goodman, Missouri; his sisters, Lorene Johnson of Huntsville and Patty Freeman of Lowell; and his grandchildren, Tiffeny Walls (James) of Jay, Oklahoma, Amanda Smith (Josh) of Winslow and Andrea Faidley (Bryan) of Longview, Missouri. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
