He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Scates and Truley Scates (Pribble); his siblings, Georgie Mae, Eathel Faye, Harvey Thomas and Hershel Scates; his nephew Terry Lee Scates; and his parents-in-law, Elvin and Leatha James.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Scates; his children, Christy Scates and Brook Scates (Heather); his grandsons, Garrett Wieland, Laramie Wieland, Taten Scates and Kysen Scates; his siblings, Thomas Scates and Judy Woodell (Woody); and his nephews, Tony Herrington, Bobby Herrington and Tommy Scates. He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews.
