He was predeceased by: his parents, Commie Houten and Viola Van Houten (Mathis); his wife Shirley Van Houten; his son Joseph "Joe" Van Houten; and his siblings, John, Leroy, Rudy, Gladys Vick and Charlotte Ivy.
He is survived by: his son Scott Van Houten (Diana) of Hot Springs, Arkansas; his granddaughter Tess Van Houten of Okeechobee, Florida; his great grandchild Aniya Dunn; his siblings, Ruby Petrus of Stuttgart, Bobbie Petty of Hazen, Arkansas and Kenneth "Bumpin" Van Houten of Des Arc, Arkansas; and his caregiver Martha Holyfield. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
