He was predeceased by: his parents, James Riley and Malinda Harness (Turney); his wife Martha Jane Harness (Parker); and his son-in-law Austin Hall. He is survived by: his children, Becky Hall and Rickey Harness (Cindy); his siblings, Veda "Jo" Smith and James R. Harness, Jr.; his grandchildren, Heather (Zach Guynn), Jeremy (Amy Hall), Richard (Samantha Harness) and Ryan (Megan Harness); his great grandchildren, Ethan, Ella Grace Guynn, Owen, Ingrid Harness, Bennett and Greyson Hall; and also, Steve Harmon, Joe Unwer and Betty Reynolds. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Hillcrest Home Board of Directors, charter sponsor of the Harrison Schools Foundation, Inc., and served 10 years on the Airport Commission as Chairman.
