He is survived by: his wife Tana Akin Vail of Hamburg; his daughters, Pamela Vail of Ward, Tarrah Smithson (Richard) of Milton, GA and Brittany Phillips (Dustin) of Monticello; his grandchildren, Steele, Anna, Ava, Addison, Megan, Sydney, Kohl and Aiden; his great grandchildren, Bentley, Avery and Adalynn; his siblings, Glen Vail of Bastrop and Deborah Mattison (Doug) of Forrest City; his mother-in-law Joy Dell Akin of Hamburg; and his sisters-in-law, Darlene Skender (Paul) of Crossett and Wendy Dailey (John) of Hamburg. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
