He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Tarkington and Mary M. Tarkington; his wife Florence Tarkington; and his brother Raymond Tarkington. He is survived by: his children, Larry Tarkington (Kathy) and Andrea Tarkington Sandage (Ralph); his grandchildren, Thomas Tarkington, Lynn Tarkington Foster (Ed), Jessica Sandage Parrish (Dan) and R. Andrew Sandage; and his great grandchildren, Jacob Parrish, Lila Parrish, Amelia Parrish, Savannah Foster, Jacqueline Foster and Abigail Foster.
