He was predeceased by: his parents, James Clarence and Ethel May Burkett; his former wife Shelby Jean Burkett; his brothers, Jerry and John Burkett; and his grandson Justin Palazzo.
He is survived by: his wife Patsy Burkett; his children, Lesa Finch (Shayne), Charlotte Madding (Mark), James Clayton Burkett (Heather), Julie Vanin (Len) and Stephanie Brown (Bill); and his sister Jimmie Lee Burkett. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two-great-great-grandchildren.
