He was predeceased by: his parents, Gilbert Marvin Cotter and Nancy Bessie Cotter (Foster); his wife Bonnie Lee Cotter; his daughter Sue Sawyer; and his siblings, Norman, Lloyd, Noel "Joe", Vernon, Kermit, Alsie Thompson, Faye Thomas, Chloe Cele McGee and Diane Cotter.
He is survived by: his children, Roger Garner (Jaquita) of Viola, Arkansas, Doug Cotter of West Plains, Missouri and Patricia Hall (Marlin); and his grandchildren, Bradley Hall (Valerie), Chris Spurlock (Mekka), Amanda Ivey (Jason), Rodney Garner, Jamie Spurlock (Samantha), Waylon Cotter (Amber) and Shenna Jackson (Brian). He is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
