He is survived by: his wife Carmen Herbert (Claunts); his sons, Gary Shafer of Fort Smith, Robert Herbert of Fort Smith and Johnny Herbert of Fort Smith; his stepchildren, Trista Richmond (Danny), Kelly Richmond (Markus) and Jerry Cox (Kristina); his stepfather Richard Wilbur of Fort Smith; and his siblings, Angel Wilbur of New York, Jimmi Herbert, Jeff Herbert of Fort Smith, John Herbert of New York, Richard Wilbur, Jr. of Booneville and Shawn Matice of New York. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren.
