He was predeceased by: his wife Betty; his stepdaughter Jarita Dale; and his brother Roy. He is survived by: his children, David Braughton (Karen), Larry Braughton (Margaret), Susan Braughton and Kevin Braughton; and his stepchildren, Bill Dillard (Rita), Shelby Dillard (Joy) and Tina Clark (Ken).

Family has requested memorial donations be made in Harold's honor to The American Heart Association (3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674).
