He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Ray and Bobbie Jean Fikes Coats; his wife Lillie Jane Norman Coats; his brother Tommy Ray Coats; and his grandson Thomas Allen Wolfe.
He is survived by: his children, John Coats (Denise) of Woodlawn, Donald Coats Jr. (Kim) of Clarksville, Rodney Grice (Tracy) of Bryant, Bruce Grice (Helen) of New Edinburg, Keith Grice (Melody) of New Edinburg and Brandy Coats Wolfe of Warren; and his sisters, Hortense Kirkpatrick (Paul) of Woodlawn and Marty Erwin (James) of Rison. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
