Mark Rossio wrote a sympathy message

“I'll always remember Mrs. Bates as one of the five pillars while growing up in the church. These pillars included five mothers who dedicated their lives teaching and shaping young boys like me to develop into servants of God, and future husbands and fathers. Mrs. Bates' was the salt of the earth; her abundance of fruit overflowed with kindness, gentleness, love, compassion, and more. Thank you Shirley Bates for showing me - directly and through your family - the goodness of God. M&J Rossio”
