He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Ben Franklin and Dortha Garst (Stansell); his stepmother Ruth Garst (Jacobson); his child Columbia; his wife Georgiann of Rogers, Arkansas; his sister Barbara Kindron of Santa Barbara, California; his children, Mark Garst (Karen) of Lebanon, David Garst of Memphis and Karen Olsen (Tom) of Rogers, Arkansas.; and his grandchildren, Miranda O'Bryant (Brad), Kaila Gillespie (Nathan), Crist Olsen (Whitney), Alec Garst (Liz), Destin Garst, Dane Olsen (Claire), Steth Garst, Ty Olsen, Elliot Garst and Addy Olsen.
