He was predeceased by: his parents, Milton Herbert and Mary Evetts Tate (Tharp); and his siblings, Augusta, Lenora, Evelyn, Ruth, Ray and Dwain.
He is survived by: his sister Nita Faye Wills of Fayetteville; and his adoptive son Vance King. He is also survived by many nieces & nephews, and other friends and family.
