He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester Hayes and Mary Gilliland Woods; and his stepfather Cecil Woods. He is survived by: his wife Janice Hayes of West Fork; his daughters, Sarah Hayes of Virginia, Laura Hayes of West Fork and Katie Hayes Fedder (Bill) of Virginia; his grandson Hayes Fedder of Virginia; and his friends, Jerry and Shirley Durning of Fayetteville.
