He is survived by: his wife Carolyn; his children, Drew Tanner (Julie) of Lexington, Virginia and Amy Tanner of Floyd, Virginia; his stepson Joe Kirk (Deanna) of Fayetteville; his grandchildren, Madeline, Arlo, Cadence, Hayden, Marcus, Samaya and Harrison; and his siblings, Joyce Tanner of Boston, Joan Baldwin of Cashmere and Kenneth Tanner of Dayton.
