He was predeceased by: his former wife Lawanna Jane Pate; and his wife Laura Marie Pate. He is survived by: his sons, Mark Gonia, Cory Armer, Andrew Pate and Justin Nellis; and his siblings, Julia Pate and Jeff Pate. He is also survived by three grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
